hi!
I'm MeiLu,
daughter, sister, and friend navigating my way through breast cancer. I am 30 years old and was diagnosed in July 2025. I’ve recently moved back to my home in Portland, OR. For the past 5 years I worked for the Veterans Benefits Administration in Chicago, IL.
Since my diagnosis, I have undergone three surgeries, wisdom teeth removal, and egg retrieval. I’m currently undergoing chemotherapy, and next steps include radiation and hormone therapy.
It hasn’t been an easy road, but I am so grateful to have a strong community of love and support. This space is where I invite everyone to stay in touch, keep up-to-date with my journey, and offer support in your own way!
family and friends,
Your Support Matters
I can’t express enough how much my friends and family mean to me. During difficult times, I find strength in connection and in the incredible support from the people around me. I’m so grateful for everyone who’s reached out, shared words of encouragement, or simply shown up – it truly makes a difference.
donate
Your kindness and generosity help cover medical costs and bring peace of mind along the way.
If you’d like to offer financial support to help with treatment and recovery expenses, you can send a donation through GoFundMe (anonymous donations possible) or directly through Zelle or Venmo.
Ways To Send Support
If you’ve been wondering how to help, here are a few easy ways to pitch in or reach out.
If you’ve ever wanted to share your secret lasagna recipe, now’s your moment.
Meals are a huge help during treatment – think soups, salads, casseroles, or anything comforting. Just choose a date on the Google Calendar, and I will text you the address once you book a drop-off time.
Thank you for feeding both my body and my spirit!

Resources to Share
I am grateful for those who have shared their stories and many resources.
There is a lot out there and it can feel overwhelming.
I’d like to share with my community (especially my girlfriends) how important it is to know your body and be an advocate for your health and wellness. I found my cancer by a breast-self exam (BSE). See the resource below on how to examine your breasts.
There are also risk calculators online that you can take to estimate your chances of developing breast cancer, with the caveat that you will be asked about your family health history. As an adoptee I have no knowledge of family medical history, however, taking this test prompted me to advocate for genetic testing to create my own baseline moving forward.
Lastly, I’d like to shout out the Livestrong Foundation for supporting my egg freezing journey. They made it more financially feasible for me to freeze my eggs prior to starting chemotherapy. The American Cancer Society is another amazing resource I’ve found myself perusing often. If you’d like to donate, see their website links below.
